Anonymous Women

These images are part of an evolving series titled "Anonymous Women" I began in early 2024. I started with vintage photographs and superimposed and paired them with my own images to create these "multiple exposure diptychs" intended to re-invent, re-tell, re-imagine a part of each woman’s life and story.

Inspired by my own family history and the stories of my own two grandmothers (whose images and stories are part of another developing project), I studied these women's faces, I pondered what it may have been like to be a woman in her time and place, and think about what opportunities women had - or didn't have.

In some photographs, I see privilege; in others I see hardships, hard work, and sacrifice. In all of them I see strength. I think of many women of the past as unsung heroes whose faces and lives deserve to be remembered, seen and highlighted.
