Take Two

Creating diptychs is one of my favorite ways of playing and experimenting with photographs and giving images a new and different meaning. Sometimes I give myself the challenge of randomly picking a variety of images from my archives and then spending some time trying to create diptychs or triptychs out of them. The goal is to find visual synergies that will make the images stronger together. The whole process takes time and can certainly be frustrating, but the result of finding a combination that works is quite satisfying, and the possibilities are endless.

To me, creating diptychs is an exploration of visual design and of story telling. Metaphorically, it can be a way to process the mysterious connection and coexistence of immense beauty and unspeakable pain in this world. Pain and suffering rarely come without beauty and love, beauty and love rarely come without pain and suffering. Both can and do coexist in this world and in each of our lives. This reality is a mystery and not something we have logical and rational explanations for, but ultimately gives our lives deeper meaning and a more satisfying purpose.
